The following informationa was sent to us by Scott Peterson: Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III joined State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, Del. Michael Summers and approximately 1,000 students on Thursday from Gwynn Park High School, Gwynn Park Middle School, Baden Elementary School, and Brandywine Elementary School to support a fellow student, Bjorn Brooks, who is legally blind from a rare genetic disease. A ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the event at Gwynn Park High School, and students walked on behalf of Brooks to boost awareness and generate funds for the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ research efforts for sight-robbing retinal diseases. R&B recording artist Ginuwine, Big Tigger, and 95.5 WPGC-FM radio personalities Free and Herkules also participated in this event.
Classes from each participating school raised money for the cause. The class that raised the most money receiving a Chick-fil-A party. The school that raises the most will win lunch catered by Henry’s Soul Café. The Brooks family expects donations to reach $5,000.
