Jacky Luangraj, 34, of Manassas, Va. pleaded guilty in May to motor vehicle manslaughter for hitting and killing  21-year-old Janelle Oni close to the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Hartwick Road in College Park.

The total sentence was 10 years, but it was suspended save for five years.

"We are pleased that Mr. Luangraj accepted responsibility for his reckless actions, which took the life of a bright young woman, and will be held accountable," Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement.

The incident happened on July 6, 2014 around 3:00 a.m. when a woman was hit by a car and the car then continued to go northbound on Baltimore Avenue, authorities said. The car was found about three miles down from where the crash happened. The driver was found inside of the car and smelled of alcohol.

Investigators determined that Luangraj's car hit the woman in College Park.
