The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is repairing the slope along MD 725 (Main Street) between Governor Oden Bowie Road and MD 202
(Largo Road) today and tomorrow between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The project requires SHA crews to establish a flagging operation for one-way traffic along MD 725.

Recent heavy rains associated with Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee have weakened the slope adjacent to MD 725, threatening the stability of the roadway.  SHA crews will perform a “soil nailing” operation to stabilize the slope and protect MD 725.  Soil nailing consists of installing metal poles along the failing slope and reinforcing them with steel.  Once this is complete, metal mesh is installed on the poles and concrete is used to create a permanent barrier to keep soil and debris from compromising MD 725.

Weather permitting, the slope repair will be completed on Friday, September 23.  If weather becomes an issue, crews will continue work on Saturday, September 24 between 12 noon and  6 p.m.  Although MD 725 will not be closed, motorists may also use MD 4
(Pennsylvania Avenue) or MD 202 as alternate routes during the emergency repair.
