CLARKSVILLE, Maryland (WUSA)-- "I told them to get into the car and get out of here before the storm hit. Because it just looked like a storm to us," says Patrick Marlatt describing the worst day of his life. September 24, 2001. "I walked back into the building. The tornado hit the back of the building. I was imbedded in the debris. And the building was gone."
Marlatt is describing the F-3 tornado that ripped through the University of Maryland, College Park. With winds approaching 200 miles per hour, it showed no mercy.
"I asked this colleague of mine to check the parking lot and to see if their car was in the parking lot. And she did and she said no. It's gone," says Marlatt. "So I figured, gosh, they got out."
If only that were the case. Patrick and Patricia Marlatt lost both their girls. Twenty-three year old Colleen and 20-year-old Erin.
