Scores of University of Md. students kicked out

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Scores of panicked University of Maryland students are scrambling to find new homes, just weeks before classes start at the school.

Students say they learned just last week that a new owner is evicting them to make way for redevelopment.

WUSA9's Stephanie Ramirez talked with some of the worried students.

They believe a new complex would be good for the area. Still, it's how the owner went about the sale that has many more upset. If students did not move out already, according to the contract, they have 90 days.

Maryland lacrosse player acquitted of assault

MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - A University of Maryland lacrosse player has been acquitted of assault after being accused of inappropriately touching a woman at a concert.

Nineteen-year-old Benjamin Chisolm of Davidsonville, Maryland, had initially been charged with aggravated sexual battery. Police said a 49-year-old woman reported waking up on the lawn at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater in Bristow to find Chisolm groping her after a Zac Brown Band concert in June.

Prior to Thursday's trial in Manassas, the charges were reduced to simple assault. Chisolm was found not guilty of that charge at Thursday's trial. He was convicted of public intoxication.

Chisolm's attorney, Edward MacMahon, said the alleged victim in the case didn't even testify at the trial.

Chisolm recently completed his freshman year at Maryland.

Maryland Football 2014 Big Ten Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Big Ten era is upon us, as the Maryland Terrapins prepare to face stiff (really stiff) competition in 2014.

It looks to be a "tale of two halves" of the season, because Big Ten Play starts on September 27, against Indiana, in Indy.

Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan and Rutgers are all slated for the rest of the season.

The good news is that QB C.J. Brown and WR Stefon Diggs are healthy and ready to play this year. Coach Randy Edsall says this team will benefit from switching conferences because the competition and recruiting are just better.

Here's this year's full schedule:
